Meet Evan Knight
Most of my work is with people who are five to ten years out from retirement. That stretch of time is when the real questions show up: how much can I actually spend, how do I turn what I've saved into income, and how do I keep taxes from quietly becoming my biggest expense in retirement. I build income and tax plans specifically for that stage, not generic portfolio management.
I also work with families navigating an inherited IRA. Inheriting a retirement account comes with tax rules and deadlines most people have never had to think about, and getting it wrong can be costly. I've helped several families work through this well.
Before this, I spent 11 years coaching college football. That experience shapes how I work with clients today more than people expect. Good coaching means having a clear process, while still recognizing that no two people need to be coached the same way. You cannot fit a square peg into a round hole, and financial planning is no different.
Why I Started Priority Financial Planning
I didn't set out to start my own firm. But the more time I spent in this industry, the clearer it became what I actually wanted to build: a firm where people are never just a number on a book of business, where the size of someone's account doesn't determine the quality of care they get.
Starting my own firm wasn't something I took lightly. I was afraid to do it.
My wife encouraged me to seriously consider it, and over time I became more convinced this was the direction I was supposed to go. My faith is part of that story, not because I'm building a firm only for people who believe what I believe, but because I believe this work is one of the ways I can care for and serve others.
I also thought a lot about my daughters.
I imagined telling them someday that I believed I was supposed to do something, but I was too afraid to do it. That was not the example I wanted to set. I wanted them to see that courage is not the absence of fear. Sometimes courage means being afraid and moving forward anyway.
That's part of why Priority Financial Planning exists: a firm that's excellent, honest, and personal, where people feel heard and valued, not sorted by how much they're worth to the bottom line.
What Clients Can Expect
Honest Guidance
I will not pretend every answer is easy or that one strategy fits everyone.
Clear Explanation
You'll understand the "why" behind a recommendation, not just be told what to do.
Personal Attention
Time, attention, and a planning relationship where you're actually known.
Credentials
I hold the Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor® (CRPC®) designation through the College for Financial Planning, and the Fundamentals of Alternative Investments Certificate through UniFi by CAIA™, which supports the work I do with structured income strategies for clients approaching retirement.
A Different Kind of Planning Relationship
If you're looking for a one-size-fits-all answer, I may not be the right fit.
But if you have money saved, accounts in place, and questions about whether it's all working together, I'd be glad to have a conversation.
